Ways 2 Lie

On one’s side, as the ancient Greeks did on klines,
in their symposia, pulling on their beards and quizzing each
other in those back-and-forth catechisms, between sips of wine
and bites of grapes.

On one’s tummy, in bed, propped up by a pillow at chest level,
to watch a movie playing on the laptop.

On one’s back, to read a book, though this can prove to be
challenging for those who underline things and jot down notes
along the margins as the ink in the pen will be tipped back
thus making it tough to make your marks.

Of course there’s always sitting.
But after a while the mattress
sinks and one’s back is not supported properly et cetera so go
ahead and get off the bed and sit at the desk, in the library,
in the park; anything to stay upright instead of this lying down.
